Acceptable Usage Terms

These Acceptable Usage Terms (also referred to as our "Usage Terms" or "AUT") govern your access to and use of https://evidence.guide, through which Robyn Dawes Institute for the Improvement of Science's AI Systems are made available. They apply to any person or entity that accesses, uses, or submits Inputs through https://evidence.guide.

By accessing or using the Services, you agree to comply with this Usage Terms, as well as the Website Terms of Use, Privacy Statement, AI Disclaimer, and Responsible Disclosure Policy, each of which is incorporated by reference.

Definitions

  • "AI Systems"— any artificial intelligence, machine learning, or large language model ("LLM") and data training and testing made available through the Services.
  • "Inputs" — any data, materials, text, research content, or information submitted by users.
  • "Outputs" — content generated by the AI Systems in response to Inputs.
  • "Services" — the website at https://evidence.guide and any associated pages, features, functionality, and related subdomains.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least eighteen (18) years old and legally capable of entering into binding agreements. You agree to provide accurate identifying information where required. Certain features may require affirmative acknowledgment (including click-through confirmations) before use.

2. Regulatory Compliance

Artificial intelligence regulation and global data governance laws evolve rapidly. Robyn Dawes Institute makes reasonable efforts to comply with applicable legal frameworks; however, the regulatory landscape may change without notice.

3. Permitted Use and Limited License

Subject to compliance with this Usage Terms, Robyn Dawes Institute grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to access and use the Services for lawful research, analytical, and informational purposes. All rights not expressly granted remain reserved by Robyn Dawes Institute.

Users may not attempt to use the Services to obtain or reconstruct substantial portions of copyrighted works or to circumvent safeguards designed to prevent excessive reproduction of protected materials.

4. User Representations and Warranties

By using the Services, you represent and warrant that:

  • You will use the Services in compliance with applicable laws and institutional policies.
  • Any material you upload does not violate intellectual property, confidentiality, or privacy rights of any third party.
  • You have obtained any necessary permissions from copyright or intellectual property interest holders before uploading protected material.
  • Any click-through confirmations you make are accurate and truthful.
  • Your use will not cause Robyn Dawes Institute to violate applicable intellectual property rights or regulatory obligations.

5. Intellectual Property and Uploads

By submitting any Inputs through the Services, you represent and warrant that: (i) you own or control all rights necessary to provide such materials, or have obtained all required permissions; (ii) your submission does not infringe any intellectual property rights of any third party; and (iii) all information provided in connection with any upload is true, accurate, and complete.

6. Inputs, Outputs, and License Grant

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you assign and transfer to Robyn Dawes Institute any and all right, title, and interest that may exist in and to your Inputs. You acknowledge that Outputs generated by LLMs may not qualify for copyright protection; however, to the extent any intellectual property rights may arise in Outputs, you agree to assign and transfer such rights to Robyn Dawes Institute upon creation.

7. AI Systems and Model Use

AI Systems rely on automated machine learning processes and statistical modeling. Outputs may be probabilistic, incomplete, or subject to technical limitations. You acknowledge that:

  • AI Systems do not replace professional or scientific judgment.
  • Algorithmic processes may be periodically updated, retrained, or refined by Robyn Dawes Institute.
  • Robyn Dawes Institute does not warrant that Outputs will be free from bias or error.

8. Confidentiality and User Expectations

You acknowledge that content submitted to the Services may be processed by automated systems and service providers. Unless expressly stated otherwise in a separate agreement, you should not submit confidential information for which you require strict confidentiality protections. Users do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in content submitted to AI Systems beyond the safeguards described in the Privacy Statement.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Robyn Dawes Institute and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or losses arising from your breach of this Usage Terms, your violation of intellectual property rights, or content you submit or upload to the Services.

10. DMCA and Intellectual Property Complaints

If you believe that content available through the Services infringes intellectual property rights, you may submit a notice pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act as described in the Website Terms of Use.

11. Suspension and Termination

Robyn Dawes Institute may suspend or terminate your access to the Services if your conduct violates this Usage Terms, presents security risks, or conflicts with applicable policies.

12. Changes to These Terms

Robyn Dawes Institute may update or modify this Usage Terms to reflect technological developments, legal changes, or operational needs. Continued use of the Services after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.


Universal Usage Standards

The following standards apply to all users and use cases. We will update our policy as our technology and the associated risks evolve.

Do Not Violate Applicable Laws

  • Infringe, misappropriate, or violate the intellectual property rights of a third party.
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations, including through the creation or promotion of false or harmful content.

Do Not Compromise Computer or Network Systems

  • Discover or exploit vulnerabilities in systems without authorization.
  • Gain unauthorized access to systems, networks, applications, or devices.
  • Create or distribute malware, ransomware, or other malicious code.
  • Develop tools for denial-of-service attacks or managing botnets.
  • Bypass security controls such as endpoint protection or monitoring tools.

Do Not Incite Violence or Hateful Behavior

  • Promote discriminatory practices against individuals or groups based on protected attributes such as race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Facilitate or promote any act of violence or intimidation targeting individuals, groups, or property.

Do Not Compromise Children's Safety

  • Access or use the Site if you are under 18 years of age.
  • Help, enable, or facilitate a minor's access to the Services.
  • Submit personal information on behalf of a minor or allow a minor to use the Services.
  • Facilitate child abuse of any form.

Do Not Create or Spread Misinformation

  • Create or disseminate deceptive or misleading information about any group, entity, or person.
  • Impersonate real entities or create fake personas to falsely attribute content.
  • Provide false or misleading information related to medical, health, or science issues.

Do Not Abuse Our Platform

  • Coordinate malicious activity across multiple accounts to avoid detection or circumvent product guardrails.
  • Circumvent a ban by creating a new account or using an existing one.
  • Use Inputs and Outputs to train an AI System without prior authorization from Robyn Dawes Institute.

High-Risk Use Case Requirements

Some use cases pose an elevated risk of harm. For the "High-Risk Use Cases" described below, these additional requirements apply on top of all Universal Usage Standards:

  • Human-in-the-loop: A qualified professional in the relevant field must review content or decisions prior to dissemination or finalization.
  • Disclosure: If model Outputs are presented directly to individuals or consumers, you must disclose at the beginning of each session that you are using AI to help produce your advice, decisions, or recommendations.

High-Risk Use Cases include:

  • Healthcare: Use cases related to healthcare decisions, medical diagnosis, patient care, therapy, mental health, or other medical guidance.
  • Educational: Use of the Service in academic testing, grading, admissions, accreditation, or certification processes where Outputs may directly influence student evaluation or professional qualification outcomes.
