Robyn Dawes Institute for the Improvement of Science ("we," "our," "us") provides AI Systems and Services designed to extract and organize structured information from scientific publications at scale and to apply statistical methods commonly used in research analysis. These tools are provided for research, analytical, and informational support purposes and are hosted at https://evidence.guide.

This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, disclose, and process your personal data when you interact with our Site, Services, or AI Systems. It also describes your privacy rights — see Section 4 for details. The Website Terms of Use, Acceptable Usage Terms, AI Disclaimer, and Responsible Disclosure Policy are incorporated by reference into this Agreement.

1. Collection of Personal Data

Personal data you provide to us directly

  • Identity and Contact Data: We collect your name and email address when you sign up for an account or to receive information about our Services.
  • Payment Information: We collect billing address and credit card details if you choose to purchase access to our products and services.

Personal data we receive automatically

  • Device and Connection Information. Your device or browser automatically sends us information such as device type, operating system, browser, IP address, time zone, and device location.

2. Uses of Personal Data

  • Extract, structure, analyze, and process user-provided Inputs using automated systems to generate Outputs and deliver the core research and analytical functionality of the Services;
  • Communicate with you about our Services and events;
  • Create and administer your account;
  • Facilitate payments for products and services;
  • Prevent and investigate fraud, abuse, and violations of our Acceptable Usage Terms;
  • Investigate and resolve disputes and security issues;
  • Debug and repair errors that impair existing functionality;
  • Improve the Site and Services and conduct research, including training our AI Systems; and
  • Enforce our Website Terms of Use and Acceptable Usage Terms.

We may use your Inputs and Outputs to train our AI Systems and improve our Services. We will use Inputs and Outputs for model improvement when they are flagged for safety review or when you have explicitly reported them to us. 3. How We Disclose Personal Data

Service Providers

We use third-party service providers to support the Website and its services. Robyn Dawes Institute uses Render Network for compute resources (no end-user personal information is shared with them), DigitalOcean to host the Website and API (no end-user personal data is stored on DigitalOcean), and Supabase for backend storage, where user account information and paper metadata may be stored.

Other Circumstances

  • Third-Party Services: Our Services may direct you to websites or apps managed by third parties. Your interactions with those parties are governed by their own privacy practices.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose personal data to governmental authorities as required by law, or in connection with claims, disputes, litigation, or to protect the health and safety of any person.
  • With Consent: We will otherwise disclose personal data when you give us permission or direct us to do so.

4. Rights and Choices

  • Restriction: You may request that we restrict processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Withdrawal of consent: Where our processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
  • Automated decision-making: We do not engage in automated decision-making that produces a legal effect or significantly affects you.
  • Sale & targeted advertising:We do not "sell" your personal data as defined by applicable laws.

5. Aggregated or De-Identified Information

We may process personal data in aggregated or de-identified form to analyze the effectiveness of our Site and Services, conduct research, and train our AI Systems. For example, when you submit feedback, we disassociate Inputs and Outputs from your user ID before using them for training and model improvement.

6. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect personal information, including encryption and row-level access controls for user authentication and account data. These safeguards also apply to automated processing activities, including extraction, structuring, and analysis of Inputs used to generate Outputs within the Services.

7. Children's Privacy

COPPA Compliance.This website is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 ("COPPA") requires that online service providers obtain parental consent before they knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

If you are a child under 13, please do not attempt to register for or otherwise use this website or send us any personal information. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
